The Local Village

Serenity is centrally located in the village of Hinderwell which offers peace and quiet with the added bonus of 2 dog-friendly pubs, a bistro, coffee shop, butcher, and fish and chip shop all within a stone’s throw.

Getting to and from the campsite is easy as there is the regular X4 bus service that goes directly into Whitby, and Saltburn. The stop is a very short walk from the site. Whitby taxi firm Abbey Taxis also operates a fixed price fare from Whitby back to the campsite for those who wish to leave the car on site.

Enjoy The Yorkshire Coast
The Beach & The Bay

The campsite is 1 mile from the beautiful sandy beach of Runswick Bay. It offers half a mile of curved sandy beach with a traditional pub and beachside cafe. On sunny weekends the beach has a lovely atmosphere and you might spot the odd surfer or seal!

The site is also 1 mile from the picture perfect fishing village of Staithes with its tiny hillside cottages and fishing heritage. Wandering through the narrow streets stopping in at galleries, tea rooms and the seafaring heritage museum makes for a lovely afternoon.

Walking Routes
Walks and Hikes

Serenity is surrounded by a wealth of wonderful walking opportunities direct from the site.

Behind the site is an old oak woodland with paths through it, and to the front is the north Yorkshire coastline and Cleveland Way. For those with rest and relaxation in mind there is a convenient circular dog walk from the back of the campsite running along a lane back through to the village.

The History Of The Local Area

The local area is rich in history. The village church of St Hilda has links to Whitby’s famous cliff top Abbey and still has an interesting flowing spring in its grounds. Less than five miles from the site you can get a glimpse into Anglo Saxon Britain with the hog back grave stones on display at Lythe Church.

There is a heritage trail in and around the village which details WW2 defensive points and Port Mulgrave’s traditional ironstone mining industry.  Port Mulgrave (1 mile away) and Runswick Bay beach are also well known for their abundance of fossils.
